Sound Level Meters for Special Applications
There are many applications where a simple, yet accurate, sound level meter is useful such as testing of fire alarms, pyrotechnics, fireworks, audio and PA systems, simple noise level checks in offices, machinery noise verification and so on.
All of our simple sound level meters meet a range of professional standards such as IEC 61672 and are accurate to Class 2 or Class 1 (depending upon the version) and can be calibrated using an Acoustic Calibrator. This can ensure that the measurements are accurate. As with any noise measurement instruments, we would recommend using a calibrator with the all of our sound level meters as well as a windshield.
We have a range of sound level meters and noise meters that can meet these applications and requirements and our recommendations are shown below.

Pitfalls of very low cost sound level meters
It is possible to buy a sound level meter for a very low price indeed. This type of instrument can be purchased on the internet for only a few tens of dollars or pounds!
Caution should be taken if the noise measurements are to be used to prove compliance with any standards or guidelines as this type of sound level meter can often be in-accurate.
Very low cost noise meters are often inaccurate to the order of 4-5dB if not more and so it is a false economy to use this type of instrument for any meaningful measurements.
